First Trimester - Week 6

Your Baby is now the size of a lentil

The average embryo at week 6 is about .25 inches and will double in size again next week! This week the heart has started beating. Although your baby is tiny, the folds of tissue in the prominent bump on top are developing into your baby’s jaw, cheeks and chin and will eventually become one gorgeous face. In addition, your baby’s ears are emerging and the arms and legs look like protruding buds.

Your Body

Your body may not have changed on the outside but the nausea, tiredness and frequent peeing says otherwise!

Common Symptoms:

  1. Exhausted – your body is still getting used to your changing hormones which can cause you to feel extremely tired.
  2. Nausea – unfortunately we don’t know why it is called morning sickness as it can occur at any stage throughout the day!
  3. Sore Boobs – thanks to increased blood flow, your breasts can feel tender and sore. They are preparing for breastfeeding already!
  4. Moodiness – expected some moodiness this week as your body copes with your pregnancy hormones.

Your Wellbeing

The initial pregnancy symptoms may be making you feel low rather than joyful and to make it even more difficult you probably haven’t told anyone you are pregnant! Try to include your partner in your pregnancy. Talk to them about how your feeling and get them to help with general day to day chores as much as possible.
